The Story of Dillon and Dinna

We have heard people say, “You don’t know what goes on behind closed doors”, but at Fuzzy Friends we think, “You don’t know what goes on behind our doors.” It’s unfortunate but in today’s economy more dogs are being dumped in rural areas without so much as a thought on how these animal will survive. We receive close to forty emails each night, and are met with dozens of visitors each morning wanting us to take animals that people can no longer pay for, no longer care for and in general do not want. Each of these animals normally comes in with approximately a $100 initial expense. If they are positive for heartworms this expense increases tremendously.

Today is Friday, February 26, 2010 and while most of us are thinking about relaxing and what our weekend will entail, two little rat terriers came to us this morning wondering where their next meal would come from, where they would sleep tonight and most importantly who would tend to their urgent medical needs.

You see, Dillon and Dinna were dumped in Speegleville with no food, no plan and no chance. But today, that all changed. A couple found them on their property. They noticed Dillon had been severely attacked and was having a difficult time. His neck appeared to be shredded by teeth. Dinna appeared to be okay on the outside but they both needed a complete medical workup as well as a lot of TLC.

Our staff performed a medical intake procedure on each dog. It was determined that Dillon needed immediate vet care. He was taken to a local vet where he was sedated so his wound could be cleaned. Once the wound was cleaned the veterinarian made the determination that the wound needed to be debrided and needed hydrotherapy. From the looks of the puncture wounds we suspect he was viscously attacked by a large dog. Our vet was very surprised he survived such an attack. Dillon will undergo two to three hydrotherapy treatments each day for the next 4-6 weeks. He was also placed on pain medication and antibiotics for the severe infection. Both dogs were tested for heartworms and both dogs were positive. This means their journey will be a long, painful one.

The most painful thing about all of this, is that Dillon and Dinna were most likely someone’s beloved pets at one time. We are wondering when this all changed….we’re sure they are wondering the same thing tonight as they sit in their cages at Fuzzy Friends.

Tonight they are warm, fed and their medical needs have been tended to. We have a plan for them. You can be for sure walking in our doors has changed their lives forever.

The next step is yours……please make an online donation right now to help us, help Dillon and Dinna. They are worthy of love, they are worthy of a second chance. Will you give it to them?
